"Nachtschwärmer" street lighting
*Nachtschwärmer = excursion during evening/night, like moths flying around the lights in the evening
85% of the total costs of the whole endurance of a street lighting (approx. 25 years) are operating costs (costs of maintenance and energy)! Very low construction costs often implicate very high operating costs - it’s a vicious circle!
The running of the street lighting costs much money - this can be up to 45% (and more!) of public costs of electricity in small municipalities! There are many factors, which must be fulfilled by an optimal street lighting: technical guidelines, security for traffic and population, attractiveness of the night local picture and efficiency.
The work with municipality responsible persons furthermore showed that comprehensible positive examples are in demand to get a better orientation in successful optimisations / redevelopments in the range of the local street lighting.

… now for first time there has been made a structured and simple plan for street lighting constructions and is being offered to municipalities and interested people by the excursion packages „Nachtschwärmer“.
The project „LICHTSTRASSE Oststeiermark“ (project leader LEA Oststeiermark, sponsored by bmvit and ffg) has the superior agenda to develop an innovative package of services to improve the energy efficiency of communal street lighting. A coordinated approach, a methodical formulation as well as the conception and development of different measures simplifies the steps to an optimal street lighting of a municipality.
